Yankee Doodle Victory Pie (P.S. you can make it with your ration coupons!)
When sugar (but not honey) was rationed back in WWII, this wartime dessert (I hear) was very popular

You need:
1 uncooked, double crust pastry
2 1/2 C uncooked prunes
1 lemon unpeeled
1 C water reserved from cooking prunes (see instructions)
1/2 C honey
2 TB butter
1/2 tsp salt
1 TB cornstarch
1 TB cold water

Preheat oven to 450° F. Cover prunes with water and boil for 10 minutes, drain (reserving 1 cup of the prune water). Pit and chop prunes. Slice lemon, remove seeds, chop into small bits (rind and all). Return prunes, lemons, prune water, honey and butter to saucepan. Stir over low heat until butter melts. Add salt & cornstarch (moistened FIRST with 1 TB cold water). Stir until thickened. Pour into 9" unbaked shell. Cover with lattice strips. Bake 10 minutes at 450°, reduce heat to 350° cook 30 min longer.
